Badoer Keeps Top Spot at Barcelona - Final Day

Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer stayed at the top of the timesheets at the Barcelona circuit, where a three-day test came to an end today.

Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer stayed at the top of the timesheets at the Barcelona circuit, where a three-day test came to an end today.

Badoer, who had already topped the times in the morning session, went even faster in the afternoon, setting a quickest lap of 1:17.141 as he continued working on tyre testing for Bridgestone.

The Italian also tested new components for next year's car, and he finished 1.5 seconds ahead of Australian Mark Webber. After nearly failing to run on the first two days of testing, Jaguar driver Webber enjoyed a trouble-free session and covered a total of 86 laps at the wheel of the chassis used by teammate Pizzonia during the first two days.

The Australian finished ahead of Frenchman Olivier Panis in the Toyota TF102B, an hybrid version of last year's car.

"It was a bit annoying that we did so few laps today," admitted Panis at the end of the day. "We planned on running the same programme working on car set-up and on the reliability of the new engine and gearbox. However, we had a minor hydraulic leak at the end of the morning session, which caused a fire in the car and it took most of the day to fix the problem.

"When I finally got back on track at the end of the session we had a gearbox problem. I am happy that these difficulties are happening now rather than next year, and for my first test with the team I am very positive."

Briton Anthony Davidson wrapped up BAR's first test of the winter by completing 72 laps with the Honda-powered 004 chassis, posting the fourth fastest time ahead of Brazilian Cristiano da Matta in the second Toyota.

"Today I was very happy and the car is feeling much better," said da Matta. "Again we focused on completing lots of laps, but we also did some work on traction control and set-up changes, which went well.

"I feel I have made real progress this week, although there are still some areas to work on and I am looking ahead to next week's Paul Ricard test."

Compatriot Pizzonia, quickest on Wednesday, completed only 11 laps today and only drove in the morning session.
