Williams Unhappy with Season So Far

Formula One boss Frank Williams is unhappy with his team's overall performance in the seven Grand Prix races so far this season, he said on Monday.

"We're not particularly pleased with ourselves because the blunt facts are that out of 14 starts this year we've finished only three times, although each time it was in the points," he told the annual Motor Expo exhibition.

"We've had five accidents, five car failures, no engine failures, and three times we've been pushed off the road. It's a bit unfair to say it's been a lamentable performance, but I see no reason to be happy with three finishes out of 14 races. You'll never ever win a championship like that."

Williams' highest finish this season came in April's San Marino Grand Prix, where Ralf Schumacher won his first Formula One race. The German also finished fifth in Malaysia earlier in the year, while fellow Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya managed second in Spain.

The Colombian also lead at the half way mark of the Brazilian Grand Prix before he was forced off the track from behind by Jos Verstappen. But Williams also said he was looking forward to Canada this weekend, where he thinks his cars will be well suited to the fast Montreal circuit.

"I'm never foolhardy to go into a race optimistic, but they are remarkably powerful engines and the cars have always looked very good on the very fast circuits like Brazil," he said. "Not only the engines, the aerodynamics are extremely efficient, they're very well balanced and handle very well. In Montreal we should perform well."

Williams are third in the constructors' championship behind leaders Ferrari and second-placed Mercedes McLaren, while Ralf Schumacher is fourth in the drivers' table.
