Arrows upbeat over new car's progress

Arrows' most recent recruit Heinz-Harald Frentzen has given the new Cosworth-powered A23 a thumbs up after finishing his first day of testing at Valencia eighth quickest overall

The German suffered a software fault on his out lap this morning, but bounced back to set a competitive time later which was quicker than the new cars from Jordan, Jaguar, Minardi and Renault.

"The car feels good so far and the engine feels strong," he said. "Of course, we have had the usual problems faced with running a new car, but nothing major, and I can feel there is a strong foundation there to work with. I'm really looking forward to the new season now as I am optimistic about this car."

Team principal Tom Walkinshaw was also upbeat about his team's chances in the coming season.

"The entire factory has put in a lot of hours in the last few months," he said. "I've seen the A23 running and talked to the drivers, the designers and the engineers and so far the signs are good but we won't know for sure until we get to Melbourne. Our hope is that we can continue where we left off in 2000 and put the 2001 season behind us."
