Arrows fortunes fail to rise
The most difficult weekend in the history of the Arrows team failed to come to a happy ending despite a competitive showing from Heinz-Harald Frentzen
After the saga of Tom Walkinshaw's bid to keep the team in business on Thursday and Friday, a good result at the British Grand Prix would have done much to raise the team's spirits.
Frentzen shone in the wet, making the most of his Bridgestone tyres to rise up the order to seventh. He was just challenging Ralf Schumacher to move into the points when the Cosworth engine that the team are having so much trouble paying for failed.
"That was a real disappointment as it was the most fun we have had this weekend!" Frentzen said. "We were definitely in for a lot of points today so to have something break at such a key moment is a huge shame for us.
"I didn't have a very good start but we made up for that by making the right choice on tyres, choosing the intermediates, and I have to say that the cars in front were easy meat and I was able to overtake.
"The car was perfect and, after a weekend like the one we've just had, a points finish would have been fantastic reward for the team."
Given that Frentzen was running ahead of the two BARs which went on to finish fourth and fifth, a top result was realistic. Enrique Bernoldi was also having a promising race, only for his driveshaft to fail.
