Alonso seeks to enhance his star billing

Spanish wonderkid Fernando Alonso, who scored his first pole position and podium finish in Malaysia a fortnight ago for Renault, believes he can reproduce that kind of form in the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend

Alonso, 21, became the youngest driver to start from pole and lead a grand prix at Sepang, but doesn't think that result will be a one-off.

"We should be as competitive [in Brazil] as we were in Malaysia," said Alonso. "We have a very competitive package, and the extra test session on Fridays gives us a definite advantage. We are ready to go earlier than the other teams, and it gives us drivers the chance to get settled into the race weekend sooner."

Alonso was surprised by the reaction to his performance back home in Spain, and hopes expectations don't get too high for the remainder of the season.

"If anything, people went a bit over the top," Alonso added. "For two or three days, the media were talking about me more than about football, which was a first. It was definitely a nice surprise. Having said that, it doesn't mean it will always be this good but I hope the interest will stay high."
