Allan McNish Q&A

Autosport.com caught up with Allan McNish after Friday's qualifying for the ALMS race in Texas. The Scot lies third in the series for Audi after his recent wins, and has signed for Toyota as test driver for its new F1 project, a man in demand

"It's not a bad stab at this kind of circuit. The infield part should produce good racing because there are long straights and tight corners. That means lots of overtaking opportunities. It's quite a technical circuit, although not as exciting as I would like."

"We've got a good car in the Audi R8, which should be competitive everywhere. One of our strengths is under braking, which should serve us well here."

"I'm not thinking about titles yet. My point of view is that if you win enough races, the championship will come to you. I tend to treat every race as a stand alone event."

"This year Audi and the ALMS are my priority and my testing for Toyota [which is entering F1 in 2202] fits around that. It's pretty easy to switch between the two, because the Toyota GT car on which I've been testing F1 components isn't dissimilar to my Audi."

"Next year everything switches around. My priority as far as time goes will be testing with Toyota."

"It's unlikely that I would do a major programme, although there are a lot of ifs and buts at the moment. I haven't sat down and discussed it with Audi yet, but remember that they haven't made a commitment to continuing in sportscars next season."
