Renault to reveal new driver next week
The Renault team will announce Fernando Alonso's replacement next week following the Spaniard's move to Ferrari for the 2010 season
Renault, with whom Alonso won his two drivers' titles in 2005 and 2006, will lose the Spanish driver to Ferrari next season after the Italian squad confirmed the double champion had signed a three-year deal.
The French team thanked Alonso for his contribution and hoped him the best for the future.
"Following yesterday's announcement, the Renault F1 Team wishes Fernando Alonso all the best for 2010 and beyond when he will begin the next phase of his career with a new team," said Renault in a statement.
"The close relationship that Renault and Fernando have enjoyed has been one of the most successful in Formula 1, culminating in back-to-back drivers' and constructors' world championships in 2005 and 2006.
"The team and Fernando's focus is now on finishing the season on a high note with some strong results in the remaining races."
Renault said an announcement about Alonso's replacement will only come next week.
BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica is believed to be the main favourite to land the drive.
