Rosberg predicts strongest outing yet

With the team's cars usually well suited to the demands of the Monte Carlo street circuit, Rosberg believes that the FW31 should allow the team to enjoy its most competitive outing this year.

"Just on past experience, our car has always been better here than at other tracks so I hope it can be something similar this year," said the German.

"Since we have a pretty good car on other tracks - we are always top 10, always running for points, here we are going to be a step further forward than that and maybe give us a chance, if we have a good weekend, to even fight for a podium. Who knows?"

Rosberg is also confident that there will be no repeat of the problems that marred his Spanish Grand Prix performance, after Williams got to the bottom of why his lap times were so inconsistent in Barcelona.

"Yeah, there was something on the car that was happening randomly, and the further the race went on the more it was a problem," he explained. "It had to do with the aerodynamics. So at certain times, and points, and corners and laps, the aerodynamics changed dramatically on my car.

"It was mainly oversteering. It was good that we saw it in the data straight after the race, because I had been complaining during the race that there was a problem, there was something wrong. So it was good that after the race they could see it on the data.

"They have been investigating it all the time, and it is not an easy thing to come to a conclusion about, but we think we have managed to find where the problem is.

"Anyway, when things are developing so quickly, when you come to Monaco the car is completely different anyway. So the chance that you are going to have it again is low. And by the time you get to Turkey, all the parts are different. But we are going to keep a close eye on it, because in Barcelona it definitely hurt my performance."
