BMW in no rush to confirm drivers

BMW-Sauber will not change their plans to confirm only after the season who will get their second race seat in 2007, despite Robert Kubica's impressive performances

Kubica's podium finish at the Italian Grand Prix resulted in him being singled out by Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn as one of the most 'exciting' talents coming through the sport.

But despite the plaudits heading his way, BMW-Sauber chiefs have said they are happy to wait until after the season to make their final decision.

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen told autosport.com: "There is no rush. We still plan to make a decision after the season."

Theissen claims that Kubica's performance have been so consistently good since he was moved up to the race team at the Hungarian Grand Prix that he is no longer surprising those inside the team.

"I have been impressed with him since the first time he joined us. Since then he has very consistently proved that he has a big talent, and at the same time is very focused and determined. What he is showing now is no surprise any more."

Kubica welcomed the praise from Brawn, and said he was happy to wait for BMW-Sauber's final decision - which is understood to be a formality.

"I am surprised that someone like Ross Brawn said this but I appreciate it," said the Polish driver. "I am not putting any pressure on the team to make a decision.

"I am trying the best job that I can and hoping to get a seat for next year. It is the team decision, not mine.

"Since the beginning of the year Mario has said he will take the decision at the end of the season, so I don't see the reason for him to change his mind because then people could accuse him of lying."
