Herbert's future with Spyker uncertain
Spyker-MF1 Team chiefs will sit down with former sporting director Johnny Herbert before the end of the season to discuss whether he has a future with them or not
Herbert's contract with the team's former owner Midland expires tomorrow, and at the moment the outfit's new bosses have no plans to renew it.
However, team owner Michiel Mol has said that he hopes to meet Herbert to discuss face-to-face a possible role for him in the new set-up.
"He was originally a Midland employee of course," said Mol. "I have spoken with Johnny, and somewhere in the next week or two we will sit down and have a chat to see if there is a future or not. At the moment I don't know yet.
"His deal with Midland finished and we have to see if we can do something with him in the future."
Spyker-MF1's team principal Colin Kolles said he was open about Herbert's future with the team. But he did suggest that the original motivation for hiring Herbert, which was to improve the team's relationship with the press, was no longer a necessity.
"His future is not decided," he said. "I have a good relationship with Johnny, so that is not an issue. For the moment, that is the situation and we have to see what the future is bringing. We need to sit down and discuss new things.
"But you are aware of what was the reason of the appointment, and it is a different strategy now. I see Johnny Herbert with different eyes than maybe the people who gave him a contract."
