Williams concerned about Wurz' race form

Williams admit there are concerns about how Alexander Wurz will readjust to the demands of racing in Formula One, but the team are confident he will not have many problems when he races again

The Grove-based outfit signed Wurz for 2007 following the collapse of talks with Mark Webber. And although they have been impressed with his technical feedback and testing performance since joining them, they are aware that he is not race sharp.

Wurz has not completed a full Formula One season since the year 2000.

Having taken third place at last year's San Marino Grand Prix when he stood in for Juan Pablo Montoya, however, team boss Frank Williams has said he is comfortable that Wurz will readjust to racing.

"There are concerns," said Williams. "There were concerns and there still are. Of his testing and his corporate understanding with sponsors, he is 100 percent - it is 10 out of 10. But on the racing front we will have to wait to see.

"I remember when he was racing he was very aggressive, wheel banging with Michael (Schumacher) and wheel banging with who knows. He is overly aggressive almost, which appeals. And in his race for McLaren last year he did an excellent job there, so we are reasonably comfortable."

Williams has said that the team had little hesitation in going for Wurz once Webber was no longer an option.

"He is very popular in the team for all the right reasons," explained Williams. "He is immensely cooperative and very bright. He is highly regarded by the sponsors and in the factory.

"Alex stood out heads and shoulders above the other candidates for the job. The choice was automatic and made very quickly.

"The only concern is how well he will race. You have got to take a chance sometimes. We just feel that he will be fine."
