Weighbridge call blamed for Button failure

Button will start the Silverstone event from 19th position, his worst ever performance at home, after failing to make the cut in the first qualifying session.

The Briton had only completed a flying lap when he came into the pits to change his tyres.

However, the Honda driver was called to the weighbridge and was left with no time to complete another lap.

"Unfortunately when Jenson came back in he got stuck on the weighbridge," said Fry. "They were quite slow pulling him on and by the time he got back to the pits there was not time to go out again so he got knocked out and Rubens went through.

"Obviously if he had gone out slightly earlier then there would have been time but the trouble with going out earlier is that the track tends to be a bit slower, it is a bit of a a balanced judgement. You don't want to go out right at the start because the track will definitely be slower.

"Jenson was out there with most of the other front runners so it was no different a decision we made versus the other competitors but the sad fact is he lost."

Button's teammate Rubens Barrichello qualified in a strong sixth position.
