Carmakers planning response for FIA
Formula One's manufacturers are set to meet after the British Grand Prix weekend to plan their response to the FIA's decision to impose a three-year engine freeze in the sport
FIA president Max Mosley announced on Friday that the FIA had given up waiting for the carmakers to come up with their own homologation plans for the sport and that there was no going back on the original proposals for a complete engine freeze between 2008 and 2010.
BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said that plans for meetings to try and find an alternative proposal were now on hold and that it was likely a response would come before the Canadian Grand Prix in two week's time.
"There is no reaction so far," said Theissen when asked for his comments on Mosley's announcement. "I really have not heard any word of him and we will do the race weekend now and then look into what he said, sit down with the GPMA teams and then make up our mind."
Despite his optimism earlier in the weekend that a compromise deal between the manufacturers and the FIA could be agreed this weekend, Theissen said he was not completely shocked by what has happened.
"I was not too surprised after the discussions and changes of the last few weeks."
When asked what his feelings were on the plans for energy storage systems to be introduced in F1 from 2009, Theissen said: "Obviously every car manufacturer is in to this and there are various concepts under development, but they are at an early stage.
"Doing something like this would be really interesting but we have to make sure we do the right stuff."
