Renault expect McLaren to be main rivals

World Champions Renault believe the McLaren-Mercedes team will be their main rivals again in the 2006 Formula One season

That is the view of Renault's F1 head Patrick Faure, who reckons the French squad should aim to win both titles again next season.

"That is at the end of the day what we are going to try and do clearly," said Faure at a celebration of the team's achievements in 2005, when they won both the drivers' and constructors' titles.

"And I think we should be able to do it because we have the same technical partners, the same technical team, the full technical support of the Renault people, frankly we have the same drivers, they are more experienced with the team than one year ago

"So if I was to have a bet I think it would be a fight like last year between McLaren and us with a big question mark about what is going to happen to Ferrari next year."

Renault and McLaren fought for the constructors' title until the final race of the season in China, when the French squad secured their first crown.

Spanish driver Fernando Alonso became the youngest champion in history at the age of 24.
