Alonso Calm ahead of Tough Race

The Spanish driver, dominant winner of the French Grand Prix last Sunday, has already warned the Silverstone race could be tough for the French squad.

His main rival in the fight for the title, McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen, is seen as the favourite to win at the British track.

"I think it will be a tough weekend for us," he said. "It's one of those circuits that does not suit our car at all, while it's opposite for the McLaren. Historically, the last couple of years have been difficult for us, while the last test here before the race in Canada was not fantastic.

"Hopefully we can improve because we've some ideas to introduce on the car, especially for this type of circuit. If we can improve then we can be optimistic. We have to be confident and that it can be a good weekend.

"Maybe we can have a better result than expected."

But Alonso, who leads Raikkonen by 24 points with nine races left, says having a tough weekend does not worry him.

"I'm in a good position, but I feel as if I've nothing to lose," said Alonso. "If I have a bad weekend, then it's not a problem. We've only done half of the season. Every race is different, and you have to be constant and to finish in the big points to win this championship with 19 races."

Alonso has taken five wins in ten races so far, and he reckons that is not likely to be enough to clinch the title if Raikkonen starts winning again.

"Who knows," he added. "Maybe five is enough if Kimi doesn't finish one or two races, but then if he starts to win races and I have bad results, then maybe more are needed.

"But in 19 races, if you win seven then you know you will fight until the last race because it's a good amount of points."
