Coulthard Concerned about Tyre Situation

With Michael Schumacher suffering a double puncture, Williams being hit by excessive wear on their front tyres and Coulthard himself having a flat-spot on a tyre which affected his ability to see while racing, the Briton believes that the tyres are now right on the edge.

Speaking in his regular column in The Daily Record, Coulthard said: "We're being taken to the limit by the new tyre regulations and you only have to look at last Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix to see the effect it can have.

"Basically, if it remains dry we're allowed just four sets of tyres for each Grand Prix weekend and that has certainly thrown up a whole new challenge.

"In fact, I'm still recovering after Barcelona. I had a flat spot on one tyre, which meant my eyes were shaking about like crazy in my head.

"Tyres were a big topic in Spain. The two Williams cars were down to the canvas on their front tyres and while my Red Bull team managed to get through okay in the end, Michael Schumacher had two tyres go, which ultimately forced him out of the race.

"We are definitely on the edge now and in a difficult area with the potential for tyres producing problems."

Coulthard's concern about tyres comes just 24 hours after he voiced worries about the level of safety facilities at Formula One tests.
