Austrian Alexander Wurz waited for his trophy on Thursday after Jenson Button's disqualification from the San Marino Grand Prix lifted the McLaren driver to third place
Colombian teammate Juan Pablo Montoya said he had received a text message from the Austrian enquiring about the silverware after the governing FIA stripped Button of his podium and suspended BAR for the next two races for a breach of the regulations.
"It is a bit surprising they were cheating to be honest," said Montoya, "but the only thing I found funny was a text I had from Alex saying 'can I collect the trophy?'
"I was shocked actually that they put them out of the races, but I think that is the way rules go I guess.
The third place at Imola handed Wurz only the second top three finish of his career, the other coming with Benetton at the 1997 British Grand Prix.
The Austrian test driver was only a stand-in at Imola for Montoya, who is returning from injury in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.
The disqualification of both BARs also lifted Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi to eighth place, making him the 53rd Formula One driver to score a point on his debut.
The Red Bull driver actually finished 11th but moved up to 10th on the day after Toyota's Ralf Schumacher was penalised for a pitlane incident.
