Jaguar loses precious gem
Jaguar Racing not only had to contend with the disappointment that neither of its R5 racecars made the chequered flag in the Monaco Grand Prix but, to add insult to injury, one of the diamonds on its nosecone has gone missing
Christian Klien crashed out on the opening lap of the race at Loews after hitting the back of Nick Heidfeld's Jordan at Mirabeau. The team has confirmed when the car was returned to the garage, however, the Steinmetz cut diamond was not attached.
"I miscalculated the build-up of traffic at the Mirabeau corner," said Klien. "As everyone pushed together I ran into the back of Heidfeld. This caused me to lose my front wing that in turn disappeared under my front tyres and caused me to lose my steering."
Mark Webber ran strongly in the opening stages, but was forced out early on with a loss of drive.
