What would the top men like to see?

Michael Schumacher said: "Basically I'd like to have more time to work on the car. That includes having the possibility to work after qualifying for the race and thus maximise your opportunity for both circumstances. That has been a big challenge in the past and now it's a lesser challenge, in all honesty. I did prefer the work with the engineers - springs, dampers, bars, wing settings, etc, to get everything to the optimum."

Juan Pablo Montoya said: "I'd change qualifying away from running with race levels of fuel. Maybe keep it as one lap so that the show stays the same but you can qualify with the car in its fastest configuration."

David Coulthard suggested: "Open qualifying, back to what we had. That was good..." And F1's new youngest ever pole man, Fernando Alonso, added: "I agree with Michael about having more time to change after qualifying.

"Just looking at the race here, tomorrow will probably be wet and then Sunday could be completely dry and sunny. What do you do? Do you start qualifying with dry settings and risk it? It's a rule that is not really fantastic for the people, the teams, the drivers, anyone."
