Confident Montoya sports new lid design
WilliamsF1 racer Juan Pablo Montoya will race in an unfamiliar crash helmet this weekend after hosting a competition for children in Colombia - and thinks he's in with a shout of winning the Brazilian Grand Prix while wearing it
Montoya's Interlagos crash helmet design was penned by a 16-year-old girl from Bogota, who is joined at the Brazilian Grand Prix by the winner of a younger age category. The Brazilian Grand Prix is the nearest thing to a home race for Montoya, and support for the former Champ Car king is as strong as it is for home town hero Rubens Barrichello.
Montoya is hopeful that after a promising test at Barcelona last week, Williams-BMW will be in the ballpark at Interlagos.
"It's like I said at the start of the year: give the car some time and it'll be quick," he said. "But for us to be quick in Barcelona, that's really something else! I honestly think that we've got a good chance here at Interlagos. We had a good strategy in Malaysia but we weren't allowed to show it.
"Michelin is putting pressure on Bridgestone at the moment and at the last race they went way too soft. Ferrari had the edge at the first race, in Malaysia they were way quick in qualifying but their tyre was much softer. Here, I'm confident."
