Schuey wants to finish with a win

The German has claimed a record-equalling fifth world title this year, scoring 10 wins along the way, more than any other driver has managed in a single season.

"It is the last race of the season and so I would like to win and start the winter break on the back of a victory," said Schumacher, who handed the US GP to team-mate Rubens Barrichello by mistake nearly two weeks ago.

But Schumacher believes that Ferrari might not have everything its own way at Suzuka.

"We saw in Indianapolis that things can change very quickly," he said. "The gap to the McLarens was much smaller than in previous races and if we had both been on the same strategy, the gap would have been even smaller.

"You can never take anything for granted in Formula 1. We are aware of that and we will be ready and extremely motivated for this race."

Ferrari's annual end of year celebration will take place at Misano in Italy on October 20. Schumacher, Barrichello and test drivers Luca Badoer and Luciano Burti will all appear. There will also be races for the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy and the Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge, plus a demonstration run of historic F1 Ferraris.
