Wilson to get his F1 chance?

Minardi boss Paul Stoddart has confirmed that he was keen to run reigning FIA F3000 Champion Justin Wilson in Hungary and that although Wilson's 6ft3ins frame was the barrier to him getting the ride, it may not stop him in future

Stoddart explained that Minardi worked for two days to try to accommodate the lanky Wilson in the Minardi that finally went to Anthony Davidson, but that Wilson ultimately could not satisfy the FIA's requirements in terms of speedy cockpit evacuation.

"I really feel for Justin," Stoddart said. "It was so, so marginal, but he just wouldn't have been legal in the car. It is not a criticism of the car or the regulations, we could have built this car bigger to accommodate him, but we didn't. The car was built for Mark (Webber), who is tall, and we didn't foresee the need to have anything bigger. But that doesn't take the pain away from Justin.

"The team worked for two days to get him into the car. We would have had to build another chassis and we didn't have enough time to do that. But we will build a car next year that will most definitely accommodate a driver of Justin's physique and he has done enough with the team to impress us. He deserves another chance."

It is not beyond the bound of possibility that pending Minardi's financial security next year, the team could run both Wilson and Davidson. Given the long and the short of that, the T-car situation could well be interesting if the scenario transpires...
