Yoong: I'm not quitting F1
Alex Yoong has strongly denied suggestions that he is thinking of quitting Formula 1. Following a recent interview in which his father Hanifah said that Yoong may consider a drive in CART or the BTCC, Malaysia's first ever F1 driver stated his determination to succeed in highest echelon of motorsport
"What he (Hanifah) said was just what he felt I may be thinking," Yoong told his personal website. "And his feeling that Minardi may not renew my contract is just a speculation based on the results so far and it has not come from myself or the team. As far as I am concerned, I am just concentrating with the work I need to do and to do the best I can for the rest of the season. The report that I will quit is just rubbish."
The 25-year-old has rarely shone during his first full season of F1, failing to qualify in Imola and at the British GP last weekend. However, Minardi has an option to renew his contract which does not expire until November.
With money issues at the heart of recent F1 debates, the substantial backing Yoong brings could make him an attractive proposition to a number of teams in spite of his performances this season...
