Montoya calls for launch control work
Juan Pablo Montoya has admitted that Williams-BMW needs to work harder on its launch and traction control systems, after being beaten away from pole position in Monte Carlo
"Overtaking is difficult in Formula 1," Montoya said, "Qualifying has always been important and the tyre war has made it even more so. You need to be able to take advantage of a good qualifying position but I couldn't do that in Monaco. Actually, it's happened three times this year - in Brazil and Austria as well.
"I'm not sure what's going on, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It's not very consistent at the moment and we need to improve. The systems were very strong last year but everyone has upped their game and we need to concentrate on it again."
Montoya crashed in Montreal last year, for the second time in successive races, while team mate Ralf Schumacher beat brother Michael and Ferrari to the win. The Colombian is altogether more confident this time, however.
"If the car is better, it comes easier. Take Monaco last year: I qualified seventh, struggled all weekend and crashed in the race. This year I put it on pole by four tenths. I like this track and I hope we will be very competitive this weekend."
