Coulthard: It's unbelievable
David Coulthard ended a winless streak dating back to the 2001 Austrian GP with a superb drive in the Monaco GP. The Scot made the perfect start to lead into St. Devote and held P1 for the rest of the race, despite almost constant pressure from firstly Juan Pablo Montoya and in the closing stages Michael Schumacher
It was Coulthard's second Monaco win, and although he's still 40 points behind Schumacher in the drivers', the gap to the two Williams drivers has been reduced to just seven points.
"It's absolutely unbelievable," said Coulthard. "It was a tough race where I was giving 100 percent all the time. I made a good start and was able to take the lead into the first corner but was then under pressure for the vast majority of the 78 laps.
"After about 30 laps it felt like I had lost a bit of power and then I saw smoke coming out from the back. I radioed back to the team and they told me it was nothing to worry about and fortunately they were right. Victories have been and will continue to be hard to get this season, so I intend to enjoy this one as much as possible."
