Valencia, day 4: Trulli on top
Renault's Jarno Trulli set the fastest time on the final day of Formula 1 testing at Valencia in Spain, but the day was affected by poor weather conditions
Trulli lapped in 1m15.524s, well clear of test drivers Alexander Wurz in his McLaren-Mercedes and the second Renault of Fernando Alonso. The Renault duo focused on control system development, engine modifications and general set-up work.
"A good day to complete our testing," said Renault's technical director Mike Gascoyne. "Jarno worked well, which his lap time shows, while Fernando ran very competitively during the afternoon. Overall, our work in Valencia has been extremely productive, and we have reason to be optimistic for Austria."
Pedro de la Rosa was fourth quickest for Jaguar, ahead of Williams-BMW star Juan Pablo Montoya, who suffered a spin into the gravel this morning.
Ferrari concluded its testing at Mugello in Italy today (Friday) with Rubens Barrichello in its F2002. Wet weather also hampered his progress, but the Brazilian recorded 42 laps, the quickest of which was 1m25.887s.
