Webber delayed by small fire
Minardi's first test at Silverstone for two years was interrupted yesterday by a fire on Mark Webber's car following an engine problem
The Australian had taken over driving duties from Alex Yoong for Thursday's sessions, as the underfinanced team worked on chassis set-up, software development and reliability testing of its new power-steering system.
Webber was forced to stop out on the circuit during the morning because of a problem with his Asiatech engine. The car caught alight briefly, but the team worked hard to repair the PS02 so that Webber could return to the track in the afternoon.
"It was certainly good to have some testing mileage instead of just the usual short periods we have with the car on race weekends," said Webber. "We experienced a frustrating problem this morning, followed by the fire. How the guys turned it around in the time, I don't know.
"We then did some light data and software evaluation during the showery afternoon session. The work we've done will undoubtedly help us for Barcelona."
