McLaren: Michelin has work to do
McLaren boss Ron Dennis has admitted that his team and Michelin have plenty of work to do if they are to match the performance of the Bridgestone-shod Ferraris in the wet
David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen were the fastest cars on the French rubber in today's (Friday) free practice session, but they were almost two seconds behind the Ferrari of Rubens Barrichello, and a further two tenths away from Michael Schumacher.
"Inevitably in a tyre war performance advantage swings from make to make and as must be apparent from today's times," said Dennis, "we must still work with Michelin on the overall package in the wet."
Mercedes' Norbert Haug echoed Dennis' sentiments and hopes the weather improves for qualifying and the race.
"Fourth and fifth places today should not hide the fact that our gap to our tyre competition in these wet conditions is not what we would like," he admitted. "So let's hope that we will have dry weather and higher temperatures for the rest of the weekend."
