Montoya aims to make up for last year
Brazilian Grand Prix pole winner Juan Pablo Montoya will be gunning to finish what he started at Interlagos last year in Sunday's race
The Colombian led what was only this third GP in 2001, only to be punted out by Jos Verstappen after lapping the Arrows. Now he intends to complete what he missed out on last year and win in Brazil.
"Staring the race from pole will maybe allow me to make up for my disappointing finish in last year's GP," said Montoya. "I am happy to be on pole, especially because this morning I couldn't get a clean run on new tyres and I had some understeer. I knew there was more potential in my car than my times showed."
His Williams-BMW team-mate Ralf Schumacher denied that he was too disappointed to be third, despite holding pole position early in the session.
"I would prefer being on the first row of course, but I think third place on the grid is not too bad in this case and I will start from the clean side of the track."
BMW motorsport director Gerhard Berger said: "If the conditions stay like this, tomorrow we could be fighting for the victory. We usually perform well in hot races."
