Bypass delay 'no problem' for Brit GP
The government has admitted that work on the new bypass at Silverstone may not be finished in time for this year's British GP, but has dismissed fears that this could result in chaos for fans driving to and from the track
According to this week's AUTOSPORT, government spokesman Lord Filkin told the House of Lords that the new A43 bypass, which circumstances Silverstone village, will be sufficiently advanced for use by race visitors.
"Although we do not anticipate that the bypass will be open to the general public before this year's grand prix, action is being taken to ensure that the great majority of it will be available for use from July 5 to 7 to enable Silverstone race traffic to be managed effectively," he said.
The year's British GP was only given the go-ahead in December by the sport's governing body, the FIA, on condition that the bypass and new access roads were completed.
