Burti had doubts over F1 future
Ferrari test driver Luciano Burti has revealed that he entertained thoughts of never driving a Formula 1 car again after his massive accident at the 2001 Belgian Grand Prix
Speaking in this week's AUTOSPORT magazine, the Brazilian admitted that some serious soul searching was required for him to continue in the sport.
"I have to say a few weeks after the accident a lot of things were going through my head and I was thinking about my career," said Burti. "I didn't know in the future if I would be racing or if I wanted to race again. This feeling last for two or three weeks and I was very confused, but then one month after the accident I was already feeling that I wanted to drive again. I was missing racing cars, I was missing the paddock and I was missing working with a team."
After finally putting the traumas of his torrid 2001 season to bed, he is enjoying his new lease of life in Formula 1 as a test driver for the Ferrari team. And, according to the Brazilian, he could not be happier in his new role.
"I have never been so happy before in my whole career," added Burti. "I am so happy here not only because of the Ferrari name and their past but also because of the way they treat me. I want to do the best job possible to help them win the world championship again."
