Change at the top for Renault
The man behind Renault's successful Formula 1 engines of the past will be promoted to managing director of the manufacturer's new-look assault on Grand Prix racing
Jean-Jacques His will take over the role on March 1 before the start of the new season. He will replace Christian Contzen, another veteran of Renault's F1 programme, who has decided to step aside from his long-term commitment. He will be given new duties, working alongside Renault's top boss Patrick Faure.
The announcement was made to the team's employees at Renalt's F1 plant in Viry-Chatillon today (Tuesday) by Faure. "Christian Contzen is the architect of Renault's success in F1," he said. "He largely contributed to the 11 world championship titles for drivers and constructors won during the 1992 to '97 period. And even more so, he succeeded in keeping the team's potential intact during the technology watch period prior to Renault's return to F1."
His is the technical director of Renault's F1 engine department. He was the brains behind the V10 that dominated GP racing during the 1990s.
