BAR launch: JV talks of Pollock exit

Speaking at today's launch of the 2002 challenger, the French-Canadian said he hasn't had enough time for the news to really sink in.

"There hasn't been much time to react to the news but it's better this way," said Villeneuve. "You don't have time to think about it, you don't know if you are angry or sad. This year was definitely the toughest to digest so far. Only time will tell if this [Pollock's departure] is the best way."

Pollock retains his shareholding in the team and will continue his role as Villeneuve's manager.

Villeneuve has also spoken out about the technical strength of the team, saying: "Changes have started to happen which will help the team in the long term. Malcolm [Oastler, BAR's engineering director] has had a lot to carry on his shoulders. If we don't get results, then that's just gonna get heavier."

His team-mate Olivier Panis said that the long-term deal with Honda shows the team are heading in the right direction: "The Honda deal is really important to help improve the team and car. We need the best of everything if possible, especially more power and more torque. We'll see when we get to Melbourne, but I'm really looking forward to it."
