Ralf says 'wait and see' on title hopes
Ralf Schumacher says he is optimistic about his Formula 1 World Championship hopes for next year - but the German believes it is too early to say whether his Williams-BMW team will be proper title contenders
After three difficult seasons the Williams outfit returned to the winners circle this year, with Schumacher and team mate Juan Pablo Montoya taking four victories between them.
The Oxfordshire-based squad is being tipped to further take the fight to world champion Ferrari and McLaren in 2002. And while Schumacher is keen to beat four-time world champion brother Michael, the three-time GP winner is remaining cautious until he has tried next year's car.
"We'll just have to see how it is," said Schumacher. "I think we'll be quite successful and I will be trying to make Ferrari's life quite hard. But I can't really say until I've sat in the [new] car. We'll have to wait and see."
Schuey Jr and Montoya are expected to run each other close next year and both will be fighting to get the upper hand within the team. However, despite the growing rift between them, the pair at least agreed on next year, with Montoya echoing his team mate's sentiments.
"Next year it looks quite good for us," said Montoya. "But it is still too early to say for definite. The package looks promising."
