Michael Schumacher breathed a sigh of relief after the Italian Grand Prix finished without a major accident
He rallied together his fellow drivers in an attempt to ban overtaking through the first two chicanes of the race because of his fears of an accident. The move was influenced by last year's Italian GP when a marshal was killed in a first-lap crash at the second chicane. But team bosses over-ruled his idea.
"Luckily the race is over and nothing has happened to any of the drivers," said the Ferrari number one who finished fourth on his team's home track. "It is good news that this weekend is over.
"It is sad for Rubens that he didn't win. He could have probably, but the most important thing is that this race is over and nothing bad has happened."
The world champion admitted on Saturday that the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on Tuesday have been playing on his mind all weekend. And Alex Zanardi's horrific crash in Germany on Saturday added to his unsettled state.
