FIA: Burti's crash a racing incident
The FIA has said it will not be taking action against Eddie Irvine or Luciano Burti after their 170mph accident in the Belgian Grand Prix
Irvine, who was banned for three races for causing an "avoidable accident" earlier in his career, said he was surprised by Burti's overtaking attempt on one of the fastest parts of the circuit. While Burti says he wants to thump the Ulsterman, according to close friend Rubens Barrichello.
The Brazilian was concussed and suffered bruising to his face after slamming into the tyre wall. He will be kept overnight at Liege's University Hospital after a scan showed two spots of bruising, and will be scanned again Monday.
But after an inquiry circuit officials decided neither was to blame.
"Having viewed video evidence and heard the explanation of the driver of car number five [Eddie Irvine]," the FIA said in a press statement, "the stewards of the meeting decided that the matter was a racing incident and no further action will not taken."
