F1 stars turn out at Goodwood

No fewer than six Grand Prix teams took part in the action, despite this week's testing at Monza, Barcelona and Fiorano making the logistics difficult.

Montoya took to the hill on Saturday at the wheel of last year's Williams-BMW FW22. His early reservations about losing a free weekend proved unfounded and he thoroughly enjoyed himself as he made a series of practice starts to entertain the punters.

Doughnuts have been banned since Johnny Herbert's efforts of last year and officials told the Colombian to be a little bit more careful on his second run, so he went out of his way to make even more smoke! On Sunday the car was taken over by F3000 driver Ricardo Sperifico.

Jaguar provided not only this year's R2, but the actual T-car that will see action at some point during the upcoming Silverstone weekend. Event newcomer de la Rosa drove on Saturday, while Irvine took over on Sunday. The drivers were under orders to be careful with the transmission, so burnouts were not allowed.

Ferrari tester Luca Badoer came hotfoot from three days of running in Italy to run last year's World Championship-winning car. McLaren provided the MP4/15K test chassis that was used until quite recently, as it features this season's engine and gearbox. Chris Goodwin handled it on Friday before Alex Wurz took over for the rest of the weekend, having been delayed in Italy by air traffic control problems.

BAR provided last year's Honda-powered 002. Takuma Sato proved spectacular on Friday, but F3 duties meant that Darren Manning then took over the car. F3000 driver Andrea Piccini drove the Minardi two-seater with various lucky guests on board.

Benetton displayed a truck and its 1999 and 2000 models, but Jenson Button's running was confined to a Clio and a 1902 car provided by Renault! Test driver Mark Webber was also in action.
