Ferrari F1 driver Leclerc faces double investigation after tough Styrian GP qualifying

The Ferrari driver had a difficult time in the wet conditions, and was knocked out at the end of Q2 to take a provisional 11th spot on the grid.

However, he could face a grid drop after the FIA said he had been summoned over two separate offences.

The first was for failing to return to the pits as soon as the red flag was shown at the end of Q1 for Antonio Giovinazzi's stranded Alfa Romeo.

The FIA regulations state that in the event of a red flag: "When the signal is given to stop all cars must immediately reduce speed and proceed slowly back to the pitlane."

The second offence was for holding up AlphaTauri's Daniil Kvyat through Turns 9 and 10 in Q2.

However, Kvyat downplayed the alleged incident after qualifying saying the wet conditions made it tough for everyone.

"I think he blocked me on one of my laps, but to be honest I don't think it was my best lap - I can't remember anymore, there was a lot going on," said Kvyat.

"It was a very busy session, so I think... it was just a poor visibility, really."

Leclerc was not the only driver to complete their lap after the red flag came out, with Giovinazzi's team-mate Kimi Raikkonen also being summoned for a similar offence.

Racing Point driver Sergio Perez, who had a miserable qualifying session as he only managed 17th place, is also under investigation for failing to slow for yellow flags shown at Turn 3 during Q1.
