BAR says appeal seeks yellow flag clarification
British American Racing's managing director Craig Pollock says the reason for his team's appeal against Kimi Raikkonen's fourth place in the Austrian Grand Prix is to seek clarification of the rule that prohibits overtaking under yellow flags - not because it will move ahead of Sauber in the World Championship if upheld
The team protested the Sauber driver's finishing position at the A1-Ring after it alleged Raikkonen lapped Luciano Burti's Prost under yellows, which were waving due to Jenson Button's stranded Benetton.
"The rule relating to a waved yellow flag is an important safety measure," said Pollock. "It is imperative to know what the FIA will or will not allow drivers to do when the yellow flag is waved. Our appeal is motivated by a need to have this rule clarified."
The FIA's International Court of Appeal will hear BAR's appeal against Kimi Raikkonen's position in the Austrian GP on June 1. Should the protest be successful, BAR will move up into fifth place in the constructors' championship, at the expense of Sauber, as Olivier Panis would inherit the Finn's fourth place.
