Prost disappointed; Alesi just frustrated

Alesi will start from 15th on the grid - just 1.657s from Michael Schumacher's pole time in an increasingly competitive Formula 1 field - but admitted frustration at not being higher.

"I did not have a specific problem with the car," he said. "However, I was never able to improve my first fast lap, which is frustrating of course. I did absolutely my best, and I will do the same tomorrow, hoping to have a good race."

Alesi's team mate, Argentinian Gaston Mazzacane, was second slowest in the session, lining up 21st for Sunday's race.

Team boss Prost said: "Our positions on the grid are disappointing, however we know that on this circuit the time gaps are very tight. Since the start of the weekend, we have improved our performance level and the cars continue to be reliable, so I really believe we can be fairly competitive in the race."

Prost was the surprise package of winter testing, leading many observers to question whether the French cars were running underweight in an attempt to lure sponsors. The team has denied the accusations, but has so far failed to matched its winter form in the races themselves.
