Vitaly Petrov eyes Formula 1, DTM or Le Mans for 2014 racing return

The former Renault and Caterham driver could not get an F1 drive for 2013 after losing his seat at the latter outfit.

Although Petrov said he is still in talks with F1 teams, he is also looking around for places in other series.

"It is clear we will try all possible options in F1 before trying something else," he said.

"But Formula 1 is a bit of headache sometimes. We're in discussions with three teams, but just need to wait a little.

"The deadline I set for myself is the first pre-season test session.

"Anyway, I will definitely drive next year. There are a lot of races - for example, the G-Drive team invited me to participate at Le Mans last year. This option is not excluded for 2014 either."

Petrov also mentioned the DTM as a possible next step. He carried out demonstration runs with Mercedes in this summer's Moscow event.

"I'm staying in touch with Mercedes and BMW and ready to discuss it seriously," he said.

The Russian also confirmed he had approached Lotus owner Gerard Lopez after it became known Kimi Raikkonen had to miss the final two grands prix, but conversations did not progress.

Petrov's next confirmed appearance will be in Moscow's annual Race of Stars ice racing event next February.
