F1 United States GP Live Commentary and Updates – Sprint Quali & Race

Saturday's action from the 18th round of the 2023 Formula 1 season

Lando Norris, McLaren MCL60, Charles Leclerc, Ferrari SF-23, Oscar Piastri, McLaren MCL60

After Charles Leclerc grabbed pole position in Friday’s qualifying for the grand prix on Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas, it is another F1 sprint Saturday.

Sprint qualifying starts at 6:30pm BST to order the grid for the fifth sprint race of the season, which begins at 11pm BST.

Sort by
Alonso gets out the bottom five, up into eighth, with Stroll ninth.
Verstappen spun at Turn 9 - too much kerb, loses the rear, sweeps across the grass. Not ideal.
No further investigation into the Hamilton / Tsunoda incident.
Alonso and Ocon tripping over each other there in pitlane as everyone heads out with four minutes left on the clock.
Leclerc slots into second, Sainz is third and Perez is fourth.
It's time for SQ2! 10 minutes for 10 cars to make it through to SQ3.

Several drivers will be investigated after the session for failing to follow the race directors' instructions on the maximum delta time. They are Russell, Albon, Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Gasly, Piastri, Bottas, Tsunoda and Perez.

Verstappen was, unsurprisingly, quickest in SQ1. Who will top SQ2?
Another close moment between Hamilton and Tsunoda - the Mercedes driver says the two touched.
Little incident between Leclerc and Russell there - the Ferrari driver says "penalty for Mr Russell, thank you."
Ricciardo squeezes through into Shootout 2 and knocks out Hulkenberg, who joins his team-mate, Bottas, Tsunoda and Sargeant in an Shootout 1 exit.
Bottas improves, but only to 17th, with Sargeant also remaining in the bottom five.
Currently in the elimination zone with less than three minutes remaining are Bottas, Magnussen, Ricciardo, Stroll and Sargeant.
Verstappen tops the timesheet with a 1m35.997s - 0.3s clear of Leclerc
Leclerc now goes quickest, with Sainz second, as Verstappen starts his first flying lap
Hamilton clocks a 1m36.4012s to lead, as Hulkenberg, Bottas and Magnussen also set their first times
The flying laps are now getting underway, with Lewis Hamilton currently putting in his first effort
Green light at the end of pitlane and the session is underway...
It's 4 °C cooler today than it was during yesterday's qualifying, with an air temperature of 31.9 °C.
