Verstappen reports that his steering wheel went "right hand down" during his quick lap - that's a bit worrying for him.
The AlphaTauris are right in the mix - Kvyat goes P3, with Gasly P5 as it stands.
Verstappen logs a 54.848s to go fastest, just under 0.2s faster than Russell.
A scruffy lap for Bottas as he has a crack at a second flyer on that set of softs, gets wide at Turn 8 and then locks up in the final corner.
"I destroyed this tyre," Fittipaldi says post-lockup. Aitken also has a spin at Turn 2, as the newcomers find the limits of these cars.
Russell does a practice start, in preparation for Sunday. He's out on the soft tyre now, currently P9.
Sainz gets into sixth, and Fittipaldi gets up to P19, just 0.002 off Magnussen. "Excellent lap mate, push again," the Brazilian driver is told.
Norris immediately jumps up to P7, edging ex-F2 title rival Russell by 0.001s.
We've got cars back on track: Fittipaldi, Sainz and Norris have headed out to the circuit.
All in the pits, as it stands. We're at that mid-session lull, as teams scour the early-run data and drivers have a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Bottom 10: Vettel, Raikkonen, Sainz, Stroll, Giovinazzi, Norris, Latifi, Magnussen, Aitken, Fittipaldi
So, after 40 minutes of running, we've got the top 10 order of: Bottas, Verstappen, Albon, Ricciardo, Kvyat, Ocon, Russell, Gasly, Leclerc and Perez
Verstappen is within 0.2s off Bottas now, with tight margins at the top of the timing board.
"I think my brakes are not working in the same way any more," Verstappen reports. Race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase reports there's a slight drop in friction, but nothing to be too concerned about.
Franz Tost has a look at Gasly's mirror - if the team can fix it quickly, it'll reflect well on the AlphaTauri technicians.
Gasly's right-hand mirror is a bit broken. Had to happen this year - after all, hindsight is 2020...
Bottas is not running with DAS in this session, although Russell is to get used to the system. So, Bottas doing a bit of legwork ahead of 2021.
Lots of traffic for Leclerc on this lap - there's going to be so much traffic in qualifying isn't there...
Leclerc won't have helped with the sand situation, having gone for a run across the gravel.
"Just to comment on the track, there's a lot of sand blowing onto the track," Russell reports.
Think we should consider giving Fittipaldi the nickname "Minty", because he's currently After Ait(ken) on the timing sheet.
Bottas jumps to the top with a 55.154s, 0.6s clear of Ricciardo's time.
Ricciardo does a 55.845s to go faster, while the two Ferraris go second and third.
Aitken also logs his first time, a 57.893s, to go 0.2s off of team-mate Latifi's time.
"How was DAS usage?" Russell enquires. "DAS looked good, all reset now" reports his temporary race engineer Pete Bonnington. DAS was good.
Or at least, he was, but loses out a smidgen on the final sector. Giovinazzi and Raikkonen set times to go third and fourth, with Fittipaldi logging a 1m00.652s for his first timed lap.
Norris logs a 57.073s to slot in behind Sainz on the timing screens.
There we go, a 56.631s lap from Sainz. Gonna have to get used to not prefacing everything with "1m" here...
"So I need to turn left here, yeah?" Sainz enquires on the approach to turn 4. "Yep, turn left, and down the wiggly bit," says race engineer Tom Stallard.
Sainz kicks us off with a 1m05.259 - but we expect times about 10s quicker than that.
A brief virtual safety car, presumably to test the systems out. We're back to green again.
Standard installation laps beginning at the start of this session, as the drivers - old and new - get used to the track.
We've got a clutch of cars out there on this very short lap. Giovinazzi out on the road first - and newcomer Fittipaldi's among that group.
