Debris flag

We have a red flag to clear the debris.

Stroll, meanwhile, reports that his car isn't working.

Piastri has a lock-up - not for the first time today. Norris had the same - the McLaren really doesn't like those sorts of threshold braking points, as we saw at Monza.

Antonelli goes third fastest, but Piastri (on a less lock-up affected lap) goes ahead of the Mercedes.

There's a smidgen of debris in the Foro Sol section, which probably needs clearing. Verstappen decided he was going to race, the two make contact, and debris is off Verstappen's bargeboard. That was excessive.

Lawson encountered an Alpine in the middle of the road at Turn 13, asking his engineer sarcastically if he was invisible. "He just sat in the middle of the road," he complains.

Leclerc then hits the top, it's a 1m18.257s on the medium.

Hulkenberg goes eighth, as his team-mate Bortoleto is garage-bound as a presumed battery issue has afflicted his car.

Lindblad is currently atop the leaderboard on a 1m20.275s, Verstappen 0.2s off that with his first soft run.

But there's still a ton of time to find - we were in the 1m18s earlier. Hadjar indeed breaks into the 1m19s with a 1m19.584s to go top.

Antonelli moves up to second, 0.436s off, as Leclerc has a wobble through Turn 11 and bails out of his lap. Big snaps at that part of the circuit - Fornaroli had one there in FP1, as Hamilton also had a few slides in the earlier session.

Hamilton then sets a 1m18.741s on the mediums to go to the stop, ahead of Piastri.

Verstappen and Albon are onto the softs at the start of this session.

Ocon reports that he has no power steering, but that's not as problematic as Bearman's start to the session as he pulled off at the side of the road at Turn 2. He's running now, but he'll go straight back to the pit lane.

Bearman had an engine swap between sessions, as his car was very smoky at the end of FP1.

FP2 kicks off in Mexico

And here we go - FP2 begins now, and a chance for those who missed FP1 to get some running in. It was very low grip earlier, so it's not like they've missed too much.

Gasly, Colapinto, Lawson, Ocon, and Russell open the session.

Just a few minutes until we get going once more at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez!

Russell, Norris, Verstappen, Lawson, Colapinto, Ocon, Bortoleto, Albon, Stroll, and Bottas are back in their usual cars for this one.

FP1 Rookie watch

We had Frederik Vesti and Ayumu Iwasa lining the top five during FP1, certainly not their first rodeos in a practice session.

Of the first timers, Nikola Tsolov was just over a tenth behind Arvid Lindblad at Racing Bulls, Gabriele Mini was 14th for Alpine, and Freddie Slater spent most of his session in the garage with an issue - but set a late lap on the hard tyre to sit 21st in the standings.

Ryo Hirakawa, Leo Fornaroli, Jak Crawford, and Luke Browning were in for Haas, McLaren, Aston Martin, and Williams respectively, while Colton Herta did enough laps to claim the final point needed to apply for an FIA Superlicence.
