It was also confirmed during FP1 that both Tsunoda and Stroll will start the Mexico City race from the back of the grid for power unit changes.
Hamilton picked up a reprimand for a track limits breach during FP1 after running off at Turn 1 and failing to rejoin the track between Turns 2 and 3. Raikkonen was also given the same punishment for the same offence.
Here's a quick recap on FP1 if you missed it: Bottas was on top in a Mercedes 1-2 with Verstappen slotting into third place. Things started very dusty and there were a couple of spins for Perez and Leclerc.
Evening all! F1 might be saving its biggest fireworks for Sunday but we are sure there will be a sparkler or two on show in second practice which is a little over 10 minutes away.
We'll be back a little bit later to run you through FP2 - please join us again then!
Regardless, that's it for FP1 - Bottas heads the session from Hamilton, Verstappen and Perez.
That's been immediately disproved - Alonso leapfrogged Leclerc for seventh. In my defence, my crystal ball is in the shop.
Alonso did move ahead of Ocon to go eighth with a few minutes remaining, but that may be the last improvement we see in this session.
Alpine has had a bit of an anonymous session so far, but Ocon's moved up to P8. Alonso is currently down in 17th, between Russell and Latifi.
Perez moves up to P4 now, displacing Gasly. Verstappen jumps back onto the hard tyres now to see what they can do with a rubbered-in circuit.
Leclerc moves up to P7 after his rear wing-related woes earlier. We're into the final 10 minutes of FP1 - so we'll keep an eye on any more movements.
Hamilton moves back up to P2, setting a 1m18.417s to sit almost equidistant between Bottas and Verstappen.
Perez sets a more representative time, going up to P5 with his new rear wing. Sainz moves up to sixth place, 0.3s off the Mexican driver.
Bottas overturns Verstappen's lead of the session, posting a 1m18.341s to go top.
Perez got crossed up with an AlphaTauri in the final sector, so he's not able to better his time so far - but he'll go again shortly.
Gasly continues to impress and gets up to P4, as he's looking very handy in sector 1. Red Bull, meanwhile, has repaired Perez's car and he's back out.
Verstappen posts a 1m18.464s on the soft tyre, just under 0.4s faster than Bottas.
Hamilton returns to P2, getting into the 1m18s, but Verstappen's on a hot one...
The circuit is evolving as the dust has been largely hoovered up. Meanwhile, Norris vetoes McLaren's request to try setting up a tow, electing to spend his time trying to squeeze more time out of the circuit.
Sainz goes top, clocking in a 1m19.470s, but Bottas smashes that with a 1m18.834s.
Raikkonen finds his way up to fourth, with a 1m20.026s. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Norris has managed to do what Bottas did a little while back, going too deep at Turn 12 and putting a pin in his lap. The McLarens are currently P9 and P10.
Ocon rifles up to sixth on the soft, but there's still over 0.5s between him and Gasly ahead of him.
Ferrari seems to have a back-up rear wing ready for Leclerc, so he should be able to get back out in this session. It might be touch and go for Perez, on the other hand.
Alonso gets up to P6, albeit with a fair gulf between him and Gasly in fifth. The AlphaTauris are so far on pace with the leading cars.
Tsunoda briefly goes P2, but Hamilton does a 1m19.781s to return to the top.
Verstappen now breaks into the 1m19s, doing a 1m19.826s to go top on the hard tyre.
Bottas goes P2 with a 1m20.102s, just a shade slower than Hamilton.
Crucially, however, Verstappen is a tenth off on the hard compound. Red Bull is expected to have a good weekend here.
Bottas set two purple sectors, but goes too deep into Turn 12 and ends his chances of going back to the top - as Hamilton dropped a 1m20.085s to go fastest.
Hamilton's had a moment into Turn 1, going too deep into the corner and taking to the run off. "Couldn't slow down there," he says. Bottas does the same, but stays on the road albeit with an almighty lock-up.
Ricciardo charges up to P4 on the mediums, as Verstappen's lap for third was done on the hard compound. The Mercs, meanwhile, are back out on softs.
AlphaTauri swarms the upper echelons of the timing charts - Gasly goes P1 on softs with a 1m20.316s, as Tsunoda briefly goes P5...until Verstappen sets a time good enough for P3.
VSC is now gone, so we're back up to full speed as we close out the first 15 minutes.
Perez did exactly the same thing as Leclerc, so there's not much grip on that part of the track. We have a VSC.
Leclerc's had a spin at the exit of the stadium section - there's damage to the rear wing. Perez also trundles into the pits with a broken wing - somewhat more damaged than Leclerc's.
Bottas' time was on the soft, however - Perez is 0.842s behind on the hard tyre. A mix of tyres in this opening flurry of laps.
