F1 Mexican GP Live Commentary and Updates - FP1 & FP2

Updates from Friday practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez

The F1 action continues with the Mexican GP, as the season begins to draw to a close after both F1 world titles were wrapped up by Max Verstappen and Red Bull.

But focus has shifted to off-track events, as Red Bull’s F1 cost cap breach for 2021 was announced ahead of practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, with the Milton Keynes-based squad given a $7 million fine and a 10% reduction on aerodynamic testing by the FIA.

Aston Martin were also give a $450,000 fine for its F1 cost cap procedural breach from last year.

Carlos Sainz led team-mate Charles Leclerc for a Ferrari 1-2 in FP1, with the Red Bull pair of Sergio Perez and Verstappen behind them in third and fourth.

Welcome to Autosport's live Formula 1 updates ahead of FP1 for the Mexican GP!
Jack Doohan will take part in his first FP1 session for Alpine, with the Australian Formula 2 driver sitting in for Esteban Ocon
There are several other driver swaps taking place for FP1: Nyck de Vries will drive for Mercedes, Logan Sargeant for Williams, Liam Lawson for AlphaTauri and Pietro Fittipaldi for Haas

Sebastian Vettel leads the field out of the pits, followed by Pietro Fittpaldi, who replaces Kevin Magnussen at Haas

Liam Lawson has gone 10th quickest for AlphaTauri. It's his second practice outing of the season, having made his debut at Spa
Charles Leclerc is finally out on track and using the soft compound tyre. Everyone else is on the hard Pirelli rubber
Schumacher, who is also on the softs, goes second fastest with a 1m21.952s
Leclerc improves on his earlier time, with a 1m20.753s, with Bottas in second and Schumacher demoted to third
Norris is next to go second quickest, 0.367s behind Leclerc
Bit of a spin there from Verstappen at Turn 10, but he gets his Red Bull going again
Gasly a little unhappy there with Latifi in front of him - "good job, Nicholas"
Zhou is stuck at the end of the pitlane - he says he can't upshift so has turned his engine off
Sainz currently leads from Leclerc with a 1m20.707s, with the Red Bull pair in third and fourth
Pietro Fittipaldi has stopped at Turn 2 - he appears to have a problem with his Haas
The session has been red-flagged thanks to Fittipaldi's stricken car. This is the second FP1 in a row to be halted because of a Haas
Fittipaldi was told by Mark Slade at Haas to stop the car immediately - lots of smoke was seen coming out the back of his VF-22
All five rookies currently sit in the bottom six, with Lawson the quickest of the bunch, followed by Doohan, de Vries, Sargeant and Fittipaldi
The track is now clear and Vettel is first back out
Gunther Steiner says there's something wrong with the MGU-H on Fittipaldi / Magnussen's car
The Haas boss says the team will probably need to put a new engine in that car now - not a good start to their weekend
Ricciardo's brake problems have been fixed and he goes 11th fastest
Jack Doohan's FP1 has come to an early finish. Alpine said: "The team has stopped as a precaution as a result of seeing anomalies in its PU data."
