F1 British GP Live Commentary and Updates – FP3 & Qualifying
Saturday's action from the 12th round of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
F1 returns to the United Kingdom for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, which hosted the very first world championship race back in 1950.
The weekend marks the closing leg of F1's first triple-header of 2024 that took in visits to Barcelona and Spielberg. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will be back in action for the first time since their Austrian GP clash handed a shock victory to Mercedes driver George Russell.
Norris completed a clean sweep in FP1 and FP2 on Friday, will he continue that form in final practice and qualifying?
FP3 starts at 11:30am BST, followed by qualifying at 3:00pm BST.

After going second in Q1, can Russell pull himself out of danger here as the final runs of Q2 begin? He's only 12th fastest currently which is not enough to secure a Q3 berth.
Piastri lowers the benchmark still further with a 1m26.945s, going 0.204s clear of Sainz.
An improvement for Leclerc puts him into the top 10, but only in ninth spot, just ahead of Hulkenberg. Those in the drop zone currently are Sargeant, Russell, Tsunoda, Zhou and Ricciardo.
Verstappen now bounces into second spot, before Sainz goes clear of both drivers into top spot on a 1m27.149s.
Those currently in the drop zone are Russell, Tsunoda, Zhou, Leclerc and Ricciardo as Alonso goes fastest on a 1m27.279s.
Verstappen is only seventh so far, as Hamilton surges up to third.
Sainz is the latest to head to the summit at 1m27.540s, displacing Piastri after his own brief spell atop the times. But Norris usurps both with a 1m27.432s.
Albon puts the first time on the board, a 1m27.983s, which Stroll, Sargeant and Zhou fail to match before Alonso surpasses it with a 1m27.652s.
Normal grip conditions have been declared by the FIA, which means drivers can now use DRS.
Q2 is under way, with the two Williams drivers heading out first. Everyone remains on slicks, as the brief shower at the end of Q1 doesn't appear to have developed into anything more.
We've just seen a replay of the incident raised earlier concerning Stroll blowing through a red light at the pit exit. He'd just been in for a change from intermediates to slicks and does indeed transgress the red light, brought out when Perez went off to cause the red flags. In mitigation, Aston's pitbox is the last one on the pitlane and there wasn't long between the light changing and Stroll arriving on the scene.
Hulkenberg just squeezed through by the skin of his teeth in 15th. Going early, it turns out, was not the best ploy for Bottas. Both Williams drivers evade the drop, as does Zhou Guanyu in a creditable eighth spot.
Bottas is 16th, ahead of Magnussen and Ocon. So they are elminated along with Perez, who ended up still quicker than Gasly, the Alpine man always due to start last anyway with his power unit penalty.
Hamilton is fastest at the end of the session, a 1m29.547s, ahead of Russell in a reverse of the FP3 times. But more pertinently, we have the five drivers who will miss out on Q2.
Now Verstappen does dig out a lap which puts him temporarily third. But times are still changing all the time as Albon and Sargeant leap out of the drop zone. The chequered flag is out now, but who will be left on the outside looking in?
Verstappen's moment was almost a mirror image of what happened to Perez, albeit without the rotation on the run-off. He was lucky to get away with that one.
"We need this lap," Ferrari's engineer tells Sainz. It's enough to get him out of the top 10. Verstappen is now the man on the bubble in P15, with Perez knocked out.
Rain has arrived! And Verstappen is off at Copse, but gets back on.
Here comes Piastri, a 1m30.895s puts him quickest now with Norris into second. Perez is already on the bubble in P15.
A 1m32.431s for Bottas puts him top, by 4.7s, but Hulkenberg quickly deposes him and goes half a second faster with a 1m31.929s.
Bottas is the first man to attempt a flying lap as the Finn was at the head of the pit exit queue. Can the 2019 British GP polesitter secure safe passage to Q2?
Q1 resumes as the green light shines at pit exit. With those clouds looking menacing, there surely won't be long for drivers to set a time before the rain returns once more.
An intriguing one here. Stroll has been noted by the stewards for leaving the pit exit on a red light. Usually a slam dunk penalty, this will be investigated after the session.
It is headed by the two Haas drivers - Magnussen is currently safe in sixth, but Hulkenberg didn't manage to complete a lap before the stoppage and is in 20th. Also in the drop zone as things stand are Bottas, Gasly (who will drop to the back anyway), Sargeant and Ricciardo, who followed Perez into the run-off at Copse but managed to gather it back up again.
The session will resume at 15:19 local time, and there's already a queue of cars at the pit exit.
Replays show Perez had a mid-corner wobble at Copse which he gathered together, but it put him wide onto the damp run-off where his slicks had no bite and around he went.
Perez had just put on a set of softs when he went off and got himself stuck. He'll be anxiously watching on now and hoping for rain which will prevent drivers from improving and knocking him out at the first hurdle. But whatever happens, he won't be participating further in qualifying.
The Red Bull driver is currently P10 in the timesheets, but has gone backwards into the gravel at Copse.
Red flag, Perez is off!
Norris has also 'done a Leclerc' and run wide at Village. They're starting to come into the pits in their droves now.
Bottas also takes on softs as those who continue to pound around drag the benchmark lower. Hamilton is quickest thus far on a 1m37.134s, from Russell and Piastri. How long will it take the slick runners to get their tyres into the window?
Leclerc is fifth in the times, but more significantly is first to go for slicks. He's bolted on the softs after gliding off the road at Village and abandoning his lap. How good is it, by the way, using proper corner names instead of bland, soul-less Turn 1?
Norris has a big snap of opposite lock around Luffield and dips his left-rear into the gravel, but it still puts him second behind Verstappen. All but the two Haas drivers have set a lap so far, and it's Sainz who is the slowest of those who have set a time.
That didn't take long. Max Verstappen now goes fastest on a 1m37.518s. Expect times to continue tumbling as more surface water is cleared.
First times are on the board, with Esteban Ocon currently leading the way on a 1m39.078s. Not for long though, surely.
"There's a small dry line forming already," reports Bottas. That much is visible just from the colour of the asphalt.
There's still a bit of spray on-line, but a clear dry line is also emerging. You'd imagine it may not be too long before slicks are considered - perhaps even within this Q1 session, which could make for a thrilling climax...
We're green for Q1. Everybody on intermediates so far, unsurprisingly.
Drivers are in their cars ready to go for Q1. One minute to go.
It was revealed earlier today that Liam Lawson will get a post-event test at Silverstone in a current spec Red Bull as speculation continues to loom over the future of Sergio Perez. What can the Mexican do today?
