F1 Brazilian GP Live Commentary and Updates – Race

Minute-by-minute updates for the 2023 Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix

Pre race grid celebrations

Max Verstappen will start from pole position as he looks to complete a weekend double after winning Saturday's sprint race, with Charles Leclerc alongside him on the front row.

Aston Martin pairing Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso locked out the second row but in the battle for second in the drivers' standings, Lewis Hamilton enters the grand prix in a preferable position over rival Sergio Perez - starting fifth to the Mexican's ninth.

The Brazilian GP gets under way at 5pm GMT.

Oscar Piastri was also involved in that - Magnussen hit his rear wing - and his race is over.
It looks like Albon made contact with both Haas's off the line - clipping Hulkenberg before crashing into Magnussen.
Looking at the amount of debris, this could potentially be a red flag that we're looking at here.
Norris leapt past Hamilton and the two Aston Martin drivers at the start and is now into P2.
The safety car is bringing the field through pitlane to avoid the crash zone at Turn 1.
Verstappen leads away but his early lead is gone as the safety car joins the track to lead the field.
But now, the remaining 19 drivers have lined up on the grid and we are ready to go.
The hydraulic problem is the same as the one suffered by Sainz in Mexico.
"No! I lost the hydraulics! Why the **** am I so unlucky?" he complains on the team radio.
The Ferrari driver has crashed on the formation lap. He has continued on but has suffered significant damage to his front wing. He was set to start from P2.
The tyre blankets come off and all drivers are on soft tyres other than Sargeant in P19, who will start on the medium compound rubber.
But don't forget Norris in P6! Could the McLaren driver challenge Verstappen for a maiden F1 victory?
Drivers to watch for in the coming grand prix - Perez in P9 will look to improve and minimise any advantage that Hamilton in P5 may end the day with.

Alonso in P4 will also have his eyes on a podium.
Ahead of us are 71 laps of the iconic Interlagos circuit. Overtaking is never at a premium here and the safety car is a regular feature.
Here is your five minute warning to lights out, as the music plays, I once again have a nerdy little bop to myself, and we really begin to get to business.
The Russell problem has been revealed to have been a sensor issue in his brake calliper - hence the dust and why he nearly slid into a McLaren in the pitlane. All is well now, apparently!
With 10 minutes to go before lights out, We Will Rock You blares around the track as the atmosphere really begins to build.
Oh no. Major sound issues leave bemused faces all around as a lone ukelele is left briefly to carry the anthem.
Interrupting that news was a completely bizarre appearance of Machine Gun Kelly. And now, Mercedes have confirmed all is, in fact, well with Russell's car.
On Russell, we're hearing that there is a problem with Russell's car on the grid.
We are 20 minutes until lights out and the party continues. Let us know your predictions for the race - Another Verstappen win? Can Russell repeat his 2022 success? Will Norris finally stand on the top step?
The grid has a real carnival atmosphere today with balloons, drums, dancing and, of course, 20 of the most incredible racing cars ever produced.
As a reminder, Perez is now 25 points clear of Hamilton in the battle for P2 in the drivers' championship. Despite Red Bull stating that Perez's position on the team is not dependent on his position in the standings, rumours persist about his future.
There were questions raised about the second DRS detection zone in the sprint, with Ricciardo one of a number that executed a pass in Turn 1 only to be passed back into Turn 4.

The Australian didn't hold back on his comments

Aston Martin have struggled for pace lately but showed well in qualifying, with Stroll and Alonso locking out the second row.

This result, says Alonso, has lifted the whole team. Could a podium be on the cards?

So while we have a moment of calm, let's run you through some of the lines that have emerged on Sunday.
The final driver to join the field is Hamilton, who made it out of the pitlane mere seconds before the lights went red.
The pitlane is now closed and the final drivers are crawling around to take up their positions on the grid.
In a bizarre early incident, Russell reported "dust" coming from his brakes as he returned to the pitlane, with his Mercedes almost sliding into the rear of one of the McLarens.
With the pitlane open and drivers completing their laps to the grid, Hamilton and Norris have both been briefly wheeled back into the garages for minor front wing angle changes.
Saturday's sprint saw drivers struggle with tyre wear issues across the 24-lap distance. With 71 laps to complete today, a combination of two and three-stop plans are expected.
Good afternoon and welcome to the conclusion of the final sprint weekend of the F1 season.
