F1 Brazilian GP Live Commentary and Updates - Race
Minute-by-minute updates of the 2024 Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix
Lando Norris will start from pole position for the Brazilian Grand Prix after a dramatic, delayed qualifying session which saw five red flags as Franco Colapinto, Alex Albon, Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz all crashed out.
After a Q2 exit and a five-place penalty, Max Verstappen will provisionally start from 17th, but could move up the order if drivers are forced to withdraw.
The race will get under way at 12:30pm local time, 3:30pm GMT.

Replays show Hamilton simply locked up into the left-hander while following Gasly. An un-Hamilton-like error there means he now sits 13th.
Russell, Tsunoda and Lawson will be investigated after the race, as will Norris.
Hamilton's difficult day continues as he falls off the road at Turn 12 Juncao, with Colapinto able to capitalise with a run into Turn 1.
Into the top six goes Verstappen, passing Lawson in what was a fairly simple and unchallenged move.
Russell again takes the fastest lap with a 1m23.928s. But that is likely to change again soon.
Bearman is rather annoyed at the penalty. Replays show he simply ran into the back of Colapinto on the exit of Turn 9 and rotated as a result, losing several positions while the Williams was apparently unaffected.
"The ride is really bad, car is bouncing so much," says a struggling Hamilton. That contrasts hugely with Verstappen, who carves past Piastri into Turn 1 to claim seventh.
Bearman has been handed a 10s penalty for contact with Colapinto.
The lack of DRS in these conditions could be to blame for the lack of overtaking so far, with Leclerc also stuck behind Ocon in fifth.
Hamilton hasn't been able to make any progress since being passed by Verstappen. He remains in the wheeltracks of Gasly, who continues to occupy 10th spot.
Russell looks comfortable so far in the lead, holding his pace without ever looking under pressure from Norris. The margins has again risen to just over one-second.
Verstappen is the fastest man on the track. Can Piastri halt his charge?
Verstappen's progress continues with a straightforward move on Alonso for eighth approaching Turn 4. Sainz meanwhile has passed Bearman for 15th as he recovers from his pitlane start.
Bad news for RB, as Tsunoda and Lawson have been noted for a starting procedure infringement. Russell is also noted.
With the track conditions continuing to improve, the majority of drivers are setting personal bests on each tour, but it is Norris who again sets a new outright best for the third consecutive lap.
A Turn 10 incident involving Colapinto and Bearman has been noted by the stewards.
Verstappen is enjoying himself out there, and takes ninth from Gasly into Turn 1.
Another fastest lap from Norris and he's rapidly closing this gap now. A 1m25.165s is his latest.
Piastri in seventh managed to fend off Alonso's advances on that opening lap. In the Aston's spray are Gasly and Verstappen, who is told that the increased rain intensity will last around two or three minutes.
As the rain arrives, so does Norris' pace, as he sets a new benchmark of 1m25.402s, closing on Russell by 0.2s.
The rain will be good news for some though, with Russell among a number of drivers being instructed to find water to cool his intermediate tyres.
It's not been a great start either for Bottas, who loses four spots and has dropped down to 15th.
Here it is though! Heavy rain in the final sector!
Russell is pulling clear in these early stages, at the track upon which he took his first F1 victory in 2022.
There is a spin for Perez all on his own exiting Turn 10, he drops to the back of the field. But things are on the up for Verstappen, who dives past Hamilton to take tenth starting lap two.
Remarkably, Tsunoda has held third place although he is trailed by 0.7s by Ocon, with Leclerc 0.4s further back.
Russell leads at the end of lap 1 by 1.2s from Norris, but remember the McLaren driver has a potential penalty hanging over him.
It's a good first lap for Verstappen, who is already up to 11th, right on the tail of Hamilton.
Tsunoda and Ocon get very close, squeezing Lawson out. He drops down the order to sixth and is now being challenged by Piastri.
Russell takes Norris into Turn 1 to grab the lead for Mercedes.
WE ARE RACING!
The field are back on the grid safely this time. Here we go!
Green lights and the latest formation lap is now under way. Third time lucky?
The engines roar back into life and the formation lap is about to begin...again!
All the mechanics are now returning to the garages once again.
The question that needs answering - all 18 drivers on the grid went without green lights. Should all of the drivers be hit with the same penalty?
As per the regulations: "ABORTED START 47.1 If the formation lap has started, and the Race Director decides the start should be aborted, the abort lights will be switched on, a board saying “ABORTED START” will be displayed, all cars should return to the grid and all Competitors will be informed of the likely delay using the official messaging system. The starting procedure will begin again at the ten (10) minute signal. Every time this happens the sprint session or the race will be shortened by one (1) lap."
Norris is now officially under investigation, but he was not the only driver to pull away from the grid. The rules on this are black and white.
Verstappen isn't happy about procedures not being followed here. You can imagine that Jonathan Wheatley will be on the case with race direction to seek a penalty for Norris.
This means the rain could be here when the formation lap actually begins.
