F1 Brazilian GP Live Commentary and Updates - FP1 and Qualifying
Follow along for FP1 and qualifying for the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix sprint race
F1’s sprint race format returns at the penultimate round of the 2022 season, which is set to shake up the Brazilian GP at Interlagos.
Having wrapped up both F1 world titles already this season, Max Verstappen and Red Bull will look to take another clean sweep having won both sprint races earlier this season at Imola and the Red Bull Ring.
Friday’s action sees opening practice followed by the traditional qualifying, ahead of second practice and the sprint race on Saturday. Sunday’s schedule remains unchanged with the full grand prix race.

Sainz, who had been in danger earlier, goes second fastest, as Magnussen pulls himself into the top 10 and puts Albon in trouble.
But now everyone else is improving and that pushes Vettel back into the drop zone in 12th. This isn't over yet!

Vettel improves though as he leaps up to eighth to push Sainz into 11th. Meanwhile Verstappen puts in a 1m10.881s to go even quicker at the top.
Rain
The rain has arrived. Nobody is able to go quicker, with the rain looking worst in the final sector.
Hamilton follows his team-mate up the order, taking fourth, to see Ocon into the drop zone.
Russell goes third with a 1m11.475s, pushing Albon into the drop zone, which will be a big relief for Mercedes. Five minutes to go in Q2.
"It's definitely getting darker here, a bit of drizzle," Verstappen reports. It definitely looks to be getting worse. The bottom five in Q2 are: Vettel, Ricciardo, Russell, Stroll and Hamilton.

Verstappen goes quickest with a 1m11.318s, getting a huge slipstream from Stroll directly ahead of him.
Russell improves to ninth, while Magnussen pushes Stroll back into the bottom five. Meanwhile spits of rain are being reported by drivers on the track.
Just like that, lap times are on the board from all the drivers and the bottom five contains Perez, Russell, Hamilton, Ricciardo and Stroll.

Soft tyre guinea pig Gasly briefly goes top, but Q1's topper Norris beats him to the top time again with a 1m11.571s.
All 15 drivers still in qualifying are early takers once again. So expect another session of orders and times chopping and changing.

Right, Q2 time! All drivers starting the session on the softs - and DRS has been enabled for this session.

"Yuki is a f****** joker," Leclerc says over team radio, as TV replays show him being held up by the AlphaTauri driver during the session. Panic over, as Leclerc made it through in 12th while Tsunoda is out.
In all the Q1 action, it was Norris who topped the session with a 1m13.106s from Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel. A session like that in Q3 and pole position is anyone’s.
Out in Q1: P16 Latifi, P17 Zhou, P18 Bottas, P19 Tsunoda, P20 Schumacher.
Wow! To helpfully prove our point, Ricciardo dropped all the way to 15th but he scrapes into Q2 in the final position.
Checkered flag
Ricciardo goes fifth but he's the first to see the flag so he'll be sweating over the times from the 19 other drivers.
Sainz moves into the top five as he completes a soft tyre lap, but Leclerc has to back out of his after being held up.
It wasn't for long, mind, as Norris, goes top from Russell and Verstappen. Are the Ferraris in trouble, as both dip into the drop zone?
Everyone is on the softs, as Latifi goes top! Blimey.
Norris goes second and Albon goes third, both on slicks, to confirm the right tyre choice. Two minutes to go in Q1 and this is anyone's guess who will miss out.
Leclerc is held in the Ferrari pitbox without any tyres on as his mechanics saw some used softs for a fresh pair. You don't want to be hanging around too long with everyone else set to improve.

It is a risk that has paid off, as Gasly goes top with a 1m17.626s. That'll convince everyone it is time to go on to the softs.
Gasly's first timed effort on the softs was 1.5s slower than what he needs to get into the Q2 spots. He'll know the slippery and drier parts of the track now, but he has risked it.

Hamilton goes fastest with a 1m18.051s to beat Verstappen and Alonso. Elsewhere, a lot of soft tyres on show in the pitlane now.
Magnussen briefly went up to third but lost that time for exceeding track limits at Turn 8, which pushes him all the way down to 18th.
Gasly is the brave one to go for the slick tyres first, taking on a fresh set of softs, so his times will be watched by everyone in pitlane.
Currently in the bottom five and Q1 drop zone is: P16 Tsunoda, P17 Magnussen, P18 Schumacher, P19 Albon, P20 Latifi.

But not for long as Alonso goes from 20th (no time) to first (1m18.412s). Everyone is still on inters but the track will only get faster until the forecasted rain arrives.

On his first timed effort Verstappen goes fastest with a 1m.18.495s, 0.228s quicker than Leclerc.

Leclerc goes quicker next time around to set the leading effort at 1m18.723s. All drivers are on the track now, so time to get the full picture.

For those out on track the first lap times are coming in, with Leclerc leading the way with a 1m19.191s. In truth, it cannot be far off slick tyres already.
17 out of 20 drivers on track already - just missing Verstappen, Alonso and Ocon.
Leclerc is told rain is expected in 10 minutes, and given this session lasts 18 minutes in total, the early lap times will be vital to make it into Q2.

Magnussen heads the F1 train at pitlane exit, with all drivers on the intermediate tyres to start with. Here we go!
All drivers are in their garages, so expect a busy start to Q1 as they assess conditions.
